Beatrice Aretz
Beatrice Aretz is a doctoral researcher at TUM's Chair of Health Informatics, investigating whether machine learning on wearable and voice data can detect hormone-related health states such as ovulation, menstrual-cycle patterns, and menopause. Before her doctorate she developed machine learning for prosthetic hand control at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), worked on data and AI architectures at Microsoft, and founded the femtech startup Caona Health, which she still runs. Her work in Medical Informatics combines longitudinal wearable data, voice recordings, and patient-reported outcomes with clinical reference measurements to develop and validate digital biomarkers of the menstrual cycle and menopausal transition. She leads MENOSTIK, a research project at TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Its main study follows around 150 women aged 40 to 55 and works towards earlier detection and characterization of perimenopause. She supervises student theses on wearable time-series analysis, voice biomarkers, and explainable AI. Interested students are welcome to reach out.
