About Simon Pistrosch

Simon Pistrosch is a doctoral researcher at the Chair of Health Informatics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He received his M.Sc. in Informatics from the University of Augsburg in 2022. His previous research investigated deep learning-based facial emotion recognition in selfie videos as part of the ForDigitHealth project, which examined the health effects of digital technologies and explored approaches to preventing, managing and reducing digital stress.
His current research is primarily conducted within the Silent Paralinguistics project. The project investigates facial electromyography (EMG)-based silent speech interfaces and the recognition of affective states and traits from both phonated and silent speech. In particular, Simon works on improving the conversion of facial EMG signals into speech, with the aim of generating natural and emotionally expressive speech in everyday situations. Such technology could support people who are unable to produce audible speech, including individuals who have undergone a laryngectomy.
