Dr. Huayu Chen

Huayu Chen is a long-term Visiting (Postdoctoral) Researcher at the Chair of Health Informatics, Technical University of Munich (TUM). He received his PhD in Computer Engineering from Lanzhou University in 2025, with a research focus on artificial intelligence, physiological signal-based affective computing, and brain-computer interfaces.
His previous research primarily focused on EEG-based affective computing and individual differences in neural responses. In particular, he investigated how inter-subject and inter-session variability affects emotion recognition and explored robust, generalizable, and interpretable representations of emotion-related EEG patterns. This work aimed to improve the reliability of EEG-based emotion recognition across individuals and recording sessions while providing a better understanding of both individual-specific and shared characteristics in affective neural activity.
His current research extends toward affective brain-computer interfaces (aBCIs) and broader BCI research. He is interested in the intelligent modeling and analysis of physiological and neural signals, with an emphasis on improving the robustness, interpretability, and generalizability of BCI systems to support more reliable and natural human-machine interaction.
